Registration with QR Codes

Picture
A QR code (abbreviated from Quick Response code) is a specific matrix barcode (or two-dimensional code) that is readable by dedicated QR readers, Android and Windows smartphones, iPhones, iPad 2's and computers with webcams. The code consists of black modules arranged in a square pattern on a white background. The information encoded may be contact information (vCard), text, a URL, or other data.

What does this mean for a conference or event organisor.

QR codes can be used on registration confirmation letters, delegate attendee badges, promotional material and for exhibition lead tracking. The beauty of QR codes is that they can be read by any device with a camara eliminating the need for specialised hardware or software.

A QR code on a registration confirmation can be read by a Webcam which will immediately load the attendees details in the registration system. This speeds up the registration process significantly as it eliminates the need to search for the attendee in the database with the inherent problem of spellling errors.

A QR code on a delegate badge means that people can share contact information quickly and easily. By simply reading the QR with a smartphone the persons contact details (vCard) are loaded directly into their address book on their phone. The same process can be used by exhibitors who are then in complete control of their data and do not need barcode readers that are only downloaded post event.

In promotional material a QR can take you directly to a website or can download product information to their device. It can also trigger a response mechanism such as an email enquiry.

QR is the next generation barcode.
